An employee by the name of StartTheCar from the Sony UK forums has confirmed that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) will be available for the ‘Sony Tablet’. At first, it was unclear which tablet he was referring to since Sony currently has the Tablet S & Tablet P out in the market. It was later made clear that the update will indeed reach both tablets. As always, no release date was given at the time so don’t get too excited just yet.

Sony Promises ICS 4.0 Update for Tablet S & Tablet P – Will They Deliver? news

One thing that I find strange is that there hasn’t been any other type of confirmation from Sony. Surely with news like this we would have received some sort of official press release. Pardon my skepticism–you can blame Samsung for that–but until I see either device running ICS I am going to take this news with a grain of salt.

Don’t get me wrong, its great to see a company willing to stand by their devices and promising an OS update is definitely heading in the right direction. But at this point, the only manufacturer that I am confident in has to be none other than ASUS. The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer will most likely be the first Android tablet to receive the ICS update but of course, that could change rather quickly. Till then, all we can do is sit and awe at the marvel that is ICS.
